FRESNO CITY COUNCIL DISTRICT 5

Paula Yang

Occupation: News Anchor with The Hmong Channel 16.5

Education and Qualifications: Paula's education includes a pending M.A. in History and Gender Studies, B.A. Business Administration/Marketing, A.A. Legal Studies Central California College of Law.

The chaos of the Vietnam War and the agreement that the United States Government drafted for the honorable assistance of many Hmong Tribes brought gifts to this country. One in particular is Ms. Paula Yang. Out of the humble shadows, as she watched and thrived and became a forerunner for many Asian Americans. She of course will say, “We are all Americans” and I agree.

After much review and observation, forming a relationship with a leader is not only beneficial for an individual, but for an entire community. A leader, Ms. Paula Yang strives to be. A savvy and educated American woman, Paula wants to extend such opportunities to all.

To name a few of her accomplishments, Paula rise and defended the later General Vang Pao July 29, 2007 by shrnews in Suab Hmong Radio Debate Forum.

An unexpected leader In the face of tradition and in the midst of scandal, Paula Yang is a beacon, championing the Hmong community. By Diana Marcum / The Fresno Bee07/29/07 04:54:36The old men who led the Hmong into war and out of the jungle were behind bars. Even Gen. Vang Pao himself, a patriarch of the Hmong, had been arrested by the American government for allegedly plotting to overthrow the communist government of Laos.

Ms. Paula Yang was summoned by General Vang Pao through the many challenges and support for the SGU Veterans of America along with Dr. Charlie Waters and William Dietzel. The representation of the Hmong Veterans of America living in the United States is of great importance and reminds us all of who have sacrificed much beyond our country. Paula lent a hand in meeting the goal.

Paula’s academic success include a degree in Business Administration and Marketing, She also acquired a degree in legal studies. Aside from an academic endeavor, Paula’s vision is to use the tools she has acquired to pay it forward and help not only the Hmong community but all communities.

Paula has been an advocate for the health and welfare of all women and children who are victims of domestic violence within the State of California for more than twenty years. What is the most surprising about Paula is her roots and knowing her identity. Despite being an American, she honors the past to create a better future. She is advocating for progress in all aspects of the Central Valley and below are just a few prodigious projects that will benefit all:

•United States Veterans Advocacy (President Trump signed a bill, which passed on March 23, 2018).
•Economic progress (small business and minority and women ownership).
•Neighborhood Safety (Paula is advocating for the Mendez family in light of tragic losses in a drunk driving accident in District 5).
•Domestic Violence Recovery and Advocacy.
•Current Hmong Channel News Anchor and her own TV program “Your Views with PAULA YANG” 16.5 ) a tool for voice in the community, open forum for guests who also advocates for the positive change and growth of the community.

The rise of Ms. Paula Yang clearly reflects on her strength to lead and still have the roots of humility as a traditional Hmong woman. There is so much more to share about Paula, but her strength to give and strength to love her community without compromising her integrity is to be appreciated and admired.
